The thermodynamic arrow of time depends on the entropy of a system, and it is undetectable until disorder sets in. While the cosmological arrow is not constant, it can be influenced by gravity, but the psychological arrow of time appears to be relatively steady from any influence except our own consciousness!
The psychological time is in line with the weak anthropic principle which says that the universe is in the exact form which allows intelligent life to develop in it. But, there are still possibilities that the psychological arrow for not to have existed at all, that is, if life as a factor didn’t evolve in the first place, could there be anyone left to question the universe, let alone understand it? However, here we are, asking time and again, what time and energy are?
Since the psychological time depends on the consciousness (mind) and the consciousness is dependent on the sixth sense, which is a product of the soul (energy), it is imperative that our understanding of time lies in understanding energy and that too in its plain, ‘pure’ state! By ‘pure,’ we mean, the energy in its actual form and not the effects like heat or light or matter. The energy state is incomprehensible for our minds, since we are used to observing energy’s effects through our senses and not the energy itself! And, it is quite intriguing too.
With all the developments in science, we have so far defined the question, ‘what is energy?’ as ‘the strength or vitality required for a sustained physical or mental activity’ and ‘the property of matter and radiation which is manifest as a capacity to perform work,’ etc. But these definitions express the energy’s properties, what we can do with it and not what it is! Such confusion is because energy lies outside the receptive capacity of our 6 senses.
We can ask, ‘If it was energy (and time) which gave rise to the consciousness in the first place and why can’t it (they) express itself (themselves) in a plain manner?’ The 6 senses evolved to observe the effects of energy (and time) in their expressed form and not it is (their) initial state, like the sense of touch evolved to feel the energy as matter. The same way, the sixth sense, a product of time, evolved to use the other 5 senses and understand the past, present and future of energy’s effects.
This means the best method for our consciousness to study energy (and consequently time) is for the consciousness to observe and become the energy itself! The methods we use here to study the energy are not scientific but spiritual, since we know energy can only be felt and can’t be observed like matter.
