68. Political Control

The Religions were originally formulated to simplify spirituality’s ideas and teach them to people. All religious scriptures explain (spiritual) ideas like karma, the joys and sorrows of life and so on, in a way the common man can understand.

They did so in the language the local communities of the time can understand, and it was done by people who understood these ideas in their essence. Right now, with a whole lot of information available to us at the tip of our hands, we can loudly argue against religions. But in the past, where there were little means of explanation about reality, people could only turn towards the religions for the explanations.

The political systems (monarchies) couldn’t deny the growth of religions since societies needed some form of control from the individual level. Right now, with all the developments in information and communication technology, our governments have a super effective control over the population. But in the past, when gathering any information about whole countries took months and even years at a time, social control was possible only at the individual level.

The religions provided such intrinsic self-control by fear of Gods and his punishments. This provided enough reason for monarchies to recognise them.

When the cunning characters contaminated the religious structures (in all communities and all religions), they started altering the scriptures to suit their needs. This is when the problems started. Holding the hopes, fears, answers and norms of people in their hands, they started to change the societies and their systems to suit their needs! Their influence on people from individual to interpersonal and even at societal levels began back then!

The cunning contamination on one side and the need for simplification (to suit the times) on the other, like cultures and economies, the religious scriptures have suffered a lot through the ages.
